Types of Handbags

Handbags and purses as we all know are used to carry money, personal items, and accessories. It is also used as a fashion accessory to accentuate the dress. Various styles and types of handbags are available in the market. Some of the most popular types of bags are:

• Hobos : Hobos are crescent-shaped shoulder bags and is suitable for all body structures.  You can easily find big and small, hobo bags in classic designs.



• Tote : Tote was earlier used only as a shopping bag. It is a rectangular bag with zipped compartments, two strap handles and open top. A tote is no longer an untrendy bag for shopping or a bag in which you can put all your stuff into. Now you can find stylish tote bags with modern detailing and attractive designs.



• Satchel : Inspired by luggage bags, a satchel is a bag with small handle that is carried on the arm. A satchel generally has a flat bottom and has a zip or clasp on the top.



• Birkin Bag : Birkin bag is named after British-born actress and singer Jane Birkin. It is a special custom-built bag. It is made from ostrich skin, crocodile skin, lizard skin or Togo leather with inside lining made of Chevre leather matching the outside color.



• Coin Handbag or Purse : Coin purse is a small sized purse to carry coins and cards.



• Diaper Bag : Diaper Bag is also known as mommy bag. It is versatile utility bag with several pockets, zipper closure, flap and durable shoulder strap.



• Duffle Bag : Duffle bag also spelled as Duffel bag is named after Belgian town of Duffel. It is also known as holdall (UK) or seabag. It is made up of cloth and used to carry luggage or sports equipment. It is also used by the soldiers to carry ammunition.



• Pompadour : Pompadour was made Marquise de Pompadour in the 18th century. It is a small-sized evening bag encased in fine and soft brocade, velvet or lace.



• Pouchette : Pouchette is also known as clutch is a small evening bag without shoulder straps or handle.



• Reticule : Reticule bags were invented in late 1790. They are also named as mesh bag, string bag or net bags. It is a small decorative bag made up of shot silk or taffeta parasols with ivory handles.



• Sac à Dos : Sac à dos is also known as rucksack or backpack. It is worn on the back and buckled straps help to keep it in place. It has drawstring to close it and a flap on it.



• Sac Seau : It is also known as bucket bag. It has cylindrical or flared shape with a hard base. It is usually open but sometimes has a flap to protect your valuables.
